How does copper become copper oxide

Under natural circumstances, copper is generally not oxidized by air to copper oxide, but if it encounters heating in the air, it will react with oxygen to form black copper oxide.

If at room temperature, it will be mixed with carbon dioxide, water, etc., to generate basic copper carbonate, in short, the chemical properties of copper are stable, not easy to be oxidized. Copper oxide for sale

There are three ways to reduce copper oxide to copper:

1, reaction with carbon: copper oxide and carbon will generate copper and carbon dioxide under high temperature conditions, the reaction phenomenon is that the black powder gradually becomes bright red, the generated gas into the clarified lime water, so that the clarified lime water becomes cloudy, if continued to pass into, the turbidized lime water will become clear.

Chemical equation: 2CuO+C = 2Cu+CO₂¡ü (high temperature)

2, reaction with carbon monoxide: copper oxide and carbon monoxide under heating conditions will produce copper and carbon dioxide, the reaction phenomenon is that the black solid becomes red, clarified lime water becomes cloudy.

Chemical equation: CuO+CO = Cu+CO₂ (heating / ¡÷)

3. Reaction with hydrogen: copper oxide reacts with hydrogen to generate copper and water, and the reaction phenomenon is that red substances are generated on the surface of black solid; There are small droplets of water forming.

Chemical equation: CuO+H₂ = Cu+H₂O (heating / ¡÷)
